"Its not what you know, but WHO you know"

LinkedIn
The common saying "It's not what you know that will get you that first job, but who you know." After the emergence of Social Media websites Reid Hoffman and Jeff Weiner have created a mainstream professional social media site to help everyone "connect" with others.

LinkedIn is a social media site that connects co-workers, clients and business partners with each other to recommend, hire and help the company become more known in the business world. The site requires each new user to create an extensive profile, with background information about yourself, including a resume', previous work history, skills, industry you work in and many others. Once your profile is set up, it is time for you to start connecting! You can connect to other people by searching people you know or also you can let LinkedIn search through your email contacts (yahoo, outlook, etc.) and send invitations to connect with your contacts you already have. LinkedIn has many aspects of a social media site like their mobile app, profile of each user, and how you "connect" with others.

In today's society, there is an app for everything, flashlight, stocks, and LinkedIn. LinkedIn's mobile app is one of the top social networking apps you can find. I prefer using the app better than the site because it is user friendly, and I can use it when I am on the go or essentially anywhere. The app is easy to use and has a user friendly GUI. This allows people to create connections on the go when it is convenient for you and not have to be stuck at the computer to use this service.
LinkedIn Profile

The personal profile section of LinkedIn has many aspects of the normal social networking site. Name, picture, current and past jobs, education, skills, and many other aspects cover your LinkedIn profile. Below is an example of my profile from the LinkedIn mobile app!

Connections are essential in your LinkedIn success. As LinkedIn's slogan says "Relationships Matter." It really does in this professional networking site. Connections could be created in many ways, you could have worked with another person on a project from a different part of a company and then when the project ends, and you are looking to transfer to a different department, you r project partner can attest and recommend you to others and tell them the skills and knowledge you have experienced from that project.

I have had a LinkedIn account since about the summer of 2009. I have only actually used LinkedIn for about a week now. I underestimated the power of this awesome service! I finally finished setting up my profile (from 2009), made many connections with past jobs and also my current internships. I have updated my resume and added my skills. I think this tool can very much help me land a job prior to graduation. I am looking forward to seeing how many connections I will get in this next week and would love for you to connect with me here!
All in all, LinkedIn is a great tool for professionals to get a step ahead in the race for jobs and from getting my past internship, it really ended up by who I knew and got recommended for an internship at AttendsHeathcare Products Inc.!
